So in reality you only save 5$ by not having a phone. They will remove the 15$/month phone, but you loose the 10$/month discount. Then you are like, 'well, I don't want a phone', so they are like, 'oh ok we'll remove it'. They say that they don't force you to do this anymore, but what they do is give you a '10$ discount' if you have a phone + dsl. My beef with ATT was that they forced me to have a home phone for like 15 a month. If you get no tv at all, mediacom internet only will be faster and cost slightly more for a 2 year contract, then the price doubles or increases drastically after that. If you get dsl your tv options are really dish and directv. Also, if you ONLY have cable internet, you can actually just remove the filter outside on your line after they install it and boom, free cable tv.(although I would NEVER ever condone such a thing as getting free undetectable cable by simply removing the hotdog sized filter which is clearly visible outside on your cable line) The reliability of both ISPs was always fairly equal to me, but since Mediacom is cable, you will usually get a better bundle deal if you want cable TV. Really what I think it comes down to is what type of TV service you are going to get. Mediacom does get pricey after your 2 year promo is up. (probably bs tech talk), but it has been working for awhile. Mediacom has come out a few times after I complained, and replaced my modem and fixed the 'line levels' on my street. I do understand the hate for Mediacom, but ATT wasnt that much better. As for reliability.well they both go out every now and then.

I have had about two dozen service outages lasting anywhere from 2-24 hours, although none in the last 6 months since I got a DOCSIS 3 modem from them.

I think a lot of it matters where you live. Right now I've had Mediacom for the last 2.5 years, and I live near Springfield lake. Over the years, I've had att DSL, Mediacom, back to AT&T, then back to Mediacom.
